Uutuku is located in East Anchorage on the outside corner of the Tudor/Muldoon curve at Rendezvous Cir. in the Scenic Foothills neighborhood. It is very fortunate to be located right next to the Powerline Trail and Far North Bicentennial Park.
This program is for children 2.5 - 5 years of age who are potty-trained (or really close!).
UUTUKU Montessori Forest Preschool offers a small, in-home Montessori classroom paired with a rich outdoor learning experience. Inside, our classroom follows core Montessori principles—hands-on learning, peace education, respect for each child, and individualized development. Children are given the time and space to work at their own pace and level, build independence, and develop confidence through meaningful, purposeful activities.
Children will bring their own healthy lunch daily (except Wednesdays) and sheet, blanket and pillow weekly for rest in the afternoons.
The program is equally grounded in forest school values of exploration, curiosity, and free play. I believe that children learn deeply through direct experiences with the natural world—observing, moving, creating, and discovering.
Whenever possible, Uutuku extends the classroom beyond the walls of the home. It is very fortunately located right next to the Powerline Trail and Far North Bicentennial Park, two fantastic outdoor areas. When temperatures are above freezing, I aim to spend at least half of our time before lunch outdoors. We go outside every day year-round, while also remaining attentive to children’s comfort and safety. I'll pay close attention to weather conditions and how children are feeling, balancing resilience with responsiveness. At UUTUKU, the indoor and outdoor environments are equally important classrooms—together supporting joyful learning, connection, and a deep sense of belonging in the world.
Because outdoor time is a central part of our program, weather-appropriate gear is essential. Children must come prepared each day with clothing suitable for the conditions, including layers, weatherproof outerwear, and appropriate footwear. Families are also asked to provide two complete changes of clothes to be kept at school so children can remain comfortable, dry, and ready to fully participate in all aspects of the day. Chat with me about what gear is especially successful in our climate. Think name-brand: clothing/boots from Baffin, Xtratuf, Reima and Grundens have hardy, snow/water resistant gear. Wool base layers and socks are also super helpful in remaining comfortable.
While outside, our students get accustomed to peeing in the woods quickly! I will support children in cleaning up, remaining sanitary and will have bags to pack out any #2 situations.
I am working on childcare licensure and intend to be licensed in the fall/winter of 26/27.
**Our home has 2 friendly dogs & a curious cat; please ensure your child has been exposed to these allergens before enrolling!
